Christmas with the Griswolds

For those of you who don't know, the Griswold's are the title family in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Who knew how prescient Randy Quaid's character would be?! Should have seen the loony coming a mile away. Well our family Christmas wasn't quite as eventful but it was nice. As my brother says "we put the fun in dysfunctional" and God help us, we don't let each other down. We don't have any traditions - each year is a little different. This year the day was spent grazing on a variety of tapas dishes and chili. Then we headed up to the Waterloo Museum and did a lantern walk around the pioneer village. We started with cookies and cocoa and found munchies along the way. The interpreters were handing out chestnuts they were roasting over an outdoor fire; the general store had Turkish Delight, there was hot apple cider and figgy pudding. The last stop was the church where we joined in a carol sing with 4 terrific carolers. The evening was not windy and not too cold....definitely a repeat for next year.
Here's a picture of the cake to wind up the evening.
