Old MacDonald

Learning tons of stuff here on old Macdonald's farm. We've been weed whacking around the sheep and goats. Moving the portable electric fence. Helping with the hoof trimming and inoculating. It's all good. We work from 8 a.m to 1pm then shower, eat lunch and have the rest of the day to ourselves. We join our hosts for dinner around 6:30 and spend a lazy evening.
Last Saturday we jumped in the car and spent the whole day touring around. I think our favourite place was Woodstock. Very yuppy, lots of money, great restaurants. We had dinner in Ludlow at the foot of Okemo Mountain. We sat outside on the patio and had a gorgeous view down main street and up the mountainside. We couldn't hang around for the Fireworks they were shooting off on Saturday night, though.
Sunday we drove south into Massachusetts. Shelburne Falls. Very funky place with lots of artisans. We picked up some beautiful tiles and two hand painted ceramic lamps. Saw glassblowers, painters....really a neat place to visit. This weekend we're planning a trip to Boston or Concord or Lexington. Kevin's doing the research on that one.
Have noticed fewer pickup trucks here. The car of choice seems to be the Subaru. Low ridin' pants are few and far between (thank god) and everyone sells iced coffee (the real stuff, not the mostly cream crap from Tim's). You don't see people wandering around with the cellphones stuck to their ears. Everyone's smiling and sweating....It is really, really warm here. Not to far from us is a put-in spot on the local river. Rocky beach, shallow water and hot dog stand (how civilized). You can jump in your inner tube and float about a mile down a slow, shallow river with beautiful granite walls and you get out at a gorgeous covered bridge. I think we may try this although the walk back to the truck is a snag.
